Solway Sunsets - Sandyhills
One of my favourite places in Scotland is the Solway Firth. The coastline from Sandyhills to Rockcliffe and along to Kippford. But what I love the most about this part of the world are the bright and colourful skies. Solway's sunsets have mesmerised me since childhood and for years I have tried to capture them in sketches. This is my ode to these beautiful views.
The coastline is rough and ever changing, full of caves and hidden rock formations. It is truly a magical experience when the tide goes out and you can walk along the flats for miles.
This piece depicts the old fishing nets at Sandyhills. A place where I have walked many times with my family exploring rock pools, saving starfish and running as fast as possible along the flats, never reaching sea.
